Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بر درلو (bir dürlü, türlü),[1][2] equivalent to bir (“a, one, indefinite determiner”) + tür (“type, kind”) + -lü.

- Used to emphasize that something just is or was not possible; just, for the life of one.
- Kız, olaydan çok sarsıldı, bir türlü kendini toparlayamadı. ― The girl was badly shaken by the incident, she just couldn't get herself together.
- Neden öyle tepki verdiğini bir türlü anlayamıyorum. ― For the life of me, I can't understand why he reacted that way.
- O numaraları değiştirdiğini biliyordum, ama bir türlü kanıtlayamadım. ― I knew he swapped those numbers, but I just couldn't prove it.

- Used with the conditional mood to indicate that neither option is favorable; damned if one does and damned if one doesn't.
- Synonym: aşağı tükürsem sakal, yukarı tükürsem bıyık
- Toplantıya gitsem bir türlü, gitmesem bir türlü. ― Damned if I go to the meeting, damned if I don't.
