Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Germanic *bisehwaną (to look, besee), equivalent to bi- +‎ sehan. Cognate with Old English besēon (English besee), Old High German *bisehan, Gothic 𐌱𐌹𐍃𐌰𐌹𐍈𐌰𐌽 (bisaiƕan).
