Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

A hypothesis says it is from Latin *pastica, from pastus[1], but unlikely because of unsolved phonetic difficulties. More likely from *bjershkë, a derivative of bie 'to fall' (cf. pjeshkë < *pjershkë < Lat persica). The term could be the source or related to the oronym Beskidy mountains[2].

Noun[edit]

bjeshkë f (indefinite plural bjeshkë, definite singular bjeshka, definite plural bjeshkët)

  1. mountain, mountain pasture
