From Old French blasmer, from Vulgar Latin *blastēmāre, present active infinitive of *blastēmō, from Ecclesiastical Latin, Late Latin blasphēmō, from Ancient Greek βλασφημέω (blasphēméō). Doublet of blasphémer.
