Etymology

From Middle English blodred, blodread, from Old English blōdrēad (bloodred), Proto-Germanic *blōþaraudaz, equivalent to blood +‎ red. Cognate with Dutch bloedrood (bloodred), German blutrot (bloodred), Swedish blodröd (bloodred).
