born loser (plural born losers)

  1. (informal, often derogatory) A person who is habitually unsuccessful or unlucky or who is prejudged to be a failure in life, especially one with a defeatist outlook.
    • 1940, "Letters Reveal Ordeals in France," New York Times, 29 Sep. p. 12:
      I will not marry a pessimist, a born loser, a fellow who has no fight in him.
    • 1976, "The Corps on Trial," Time, 12 Jul.:
      A born loser and high school dropout from Lufkin, Texas, McClure had been rejected by the Army and Air Force.
