Etymology[edit]

From translingual Botrytis, borrowed from Ancient Greek βότρυς (bótrus, (bunch of) grapes) +‎ -itis (disease) (from New Latin -itis, from Ancient Greek -ῖτις (-îtis, pertaining to)).

botrytis (usually uncountable, plural botrytises)

  1. Any fungus of the genus Botrytis, especially Botrytis cinerea which is responsible for the formation of noble rot on grapes.
