Brokastis

Etymology

Borrowed from Middle Low German vrōkost (cf. Swedish frukost “breakfast,” and also the (deprecated template usage) [etyl] German older term Frühkost “breakfast,” literally “early food”). The initial cluster was changed from vr [fr] to br to conform to (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latvian patterns; the final ost changed to ast perhaps under the influence of words like mielasts (“feast”).
