Etymology

From Middle English brotherles, from Old English brōþorlēas, from Proto-Germanic *brōþērlausaz, equivalent to brother +‎ -less. Cognate with West Frisian broerleas (brotherless), Dutch broederloos (brotherless), German bruderlos (brotherless).
