From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *burmā, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *bher-2 (to boil, swell; to get high). Cognate to Latin fretum (a strait, sound, estuary, firth, channel), Low German Bärme, and Middle Dutch berm, barm (barm).
