From *bur, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *bʰrenu̯, present stem from *bʰreu-, *bʰru-. Compare Middle Irish bréo (flame), Sanskrit भुरति (bhurati, moves quickly, twitches, fidgets), Old English birnan (to burn).
