Etymology

From a substrate term *cambica (etymon of canga), derived with the Latin suffix -īle: *cambicīle; from Proto-Celtic *kambos (“twisted, crooked”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kh₂emb- (“to bend, curve”). Cognate with Portuguese canzil.
