From a substrate term *cambica (etymon of canga), derived with the Latin suffix -īle: *cambicīle; from Proto-Celtic *kambos (twisted, crooked),[1] from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kh₂emb- (to bend, curve). Cognate with Portuguese canzil.
