Etymology

    From Proto-Indo-European *(s)ḱh₂embos (crooked), probably from the same substrate source as *kh₂em- (to arch). Compare Ancient Greek σκαμβός (skambós, crooked) and Proto-Germanic *skimpijaną (to skip, hop, dance; to joke), *skumpōną.
