carotid triangle (plural carotid triangles)

  1. (anatomy) A space in each lateral half of the neck that is bounded in back by the sternocleidomastoid muscle, below by the omohyoid muscle, and above by the stylohyoid and digastric muscles.
    Synonym: superior carotid triangle
  2. (anatomy, dated) Either of the two spaces in the anterolateral neck.
    Meronyms: inferior carotid triangle, superior carotid triangle
