Etymology

Either a derivative of cip, or (if from t(ë?)- + *zipë) from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *gʰwih₂bʰ- (shame, pudenda) (though the -p- instead of the expected *-b- remains unexplained). Compare Old English wif (woman, wife), Tocharian A kwīpe, Tocharian B kip (vagina).
