Etymology

From an alteration of Latin cotyla, cotula, from Ancient Greek κοτύλη (kotúlē). Cognate to Megleno-Romanian ciutură, Aromanian ciuturã, ciutrã, Italian ciotola. See Aromanian ciuturã for non-Romance descendants.
