Etymology

From Slavic *kolęda, Old Church Slavonic колѧда (kolęda), itself from Latin kalendae, calendae. The Latin word probably left a lost or unattested Romanian word *cărinde (compare related word cărindar), which influenced or became crossed with the Slavic-derived version to make the variant form corindă.

Noun

colindă f (plural colinde)

  1. Christmas carol
