Etymology[edit]

The phrase, and the type of school, were originally proposed in the Plowden Report in 1967.

combined school (plural combined schools)

  1. (UK, education) A school accepting pupils from age 4 to 12.

Usage notes[edit]

  • Such schools are no longer common, but some have preserved the phrase "Combined School" in their names despite changing their academic structure.
