From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] French cynisme, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Late Latin cynismus, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek κυνισμός (kunismós, “philosophy of the Cynics”), from κυν- (kun-), stem of κύων (kúōn, “dog”, “Cynic”); compare cynicism.
