Etymology

From Old French [Term?], from Vulgar Latin *discalceus, itself either from a shortening of Late Latin discalceātus, from discalceō, or from Latin dis- + calceus. Cognate with Occitan descauç, Catalan descalç, Spanish descalzo, Portuguese descalço, Italian scalzo and Romanian desculț.
