From Ottoman Turkish جهنم ‎(cehennem), from Arabic جَهَنَّم ‎(jahannam), from Hebrew גהינום ‎(Gehinóm), from גַּיא בֶּן הִנֹּם ‎(Gé bén Hinóm, Valley of Hinnom's Son). Compare Macedonian џенем ‎(dženem), and obsolete and dialectal Bulgarian джендем ‎(džendem).
