Albanian
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Albanian *darkā, from Proto-Indo-European *dorkw-o-. Cognate to Ancient Greek δόρπον (dórpon, “supper, dinner; evening”).[1] Has entered the declension of the feminine ā-stems. According to A. Lubotsky and M. de Vaan, considering the distribution of the term, both Greek and Albanian strongly suggest borrowings from an old Balkan substrate source.[2]
