From Arabic ذَبَحَ (ḏabaḥa).

  1. (religion) to slaughter and sacrifice a victim (usually an animal)
    Alla talab minn Abraham biex jidbaħ lil ibnu Iżakk.
    God demanded of Abraham that he sacrifice his son Isaac.
  2. (now rare) to slaughter (in general)

Usage notes[edit]

  • For normal slaughtering of animals qatel (to kill) is used. The verb biċċer most often means “to butcher, kill brutally”.
