Etymology[edit]
docosa- (“22”) + hexa- (“6”) + -ene (“double-bonded carbon”) + -oic (“carboxyl”). From having 22 carbon atoms, with 6 double-bonded carbon-carbon bonds, and one of the carbons being part of a carboyl group.
