Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from a South Slavic language, compare Old Church Slavonic доухъ (duxŭ, spirit), Serbo-Croatian duh (ghost, spirit). Ultimately derived from Proto-Slavic *duxъ (breath, spirit); compare its o-grade counterpart *dъxъ (breath, whiff).[1][2]
