Etymology
From Middle English dusshen, duschen, perhaps from Old English dwǣsċan (“to put out, extinguish, destroy”) (see adwesch). Cognate with Middle Low German duschen, (deprecated template usage) [etyl] German dialectal duschen (“to beat, butt”). Compare also West Frisian dúste (“to push, thrust, poke”).
