Etymology

From Middle English dusshen, duschen, perhaps from Old English dwǣsċan (to put out, extinguish, destroy) (see adwesch). Cognate with Middle Low German duschen, (deprecated template usage) [etyl] German dialectal duschen (to beat, butt). Compare also West Frisian dúste (to push, thrust, poke).
