Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish اكشی (ekşi, an acid; sour substance, sour, acidic), derived from Proto-Turkic *ek-ĺči- (to be sour). See ekşimek.

Cognate with Karakhanid [script needed] (ekşig, sour), Chagatai [script needed] (ekşi, sour), Chuvash йӗксӳ (jĕksü, bitterness).
