Etymology

From en- +‎ cabestro (halter) +‎ -ar, or alternatively a Vulgar Latin root *incapistrāre[1], from Latin capistrō, capistrāre. Compare Portuguese encabrestar, Catalan and Occitan encabestrar, French enchevêtrer, Italian incapestrare, Sardinian incrabistare, Romanian încăpăstra.
