From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Galician-Portuguese escasso, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Vulgar Latin *excarsus, for excerptus, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin excerpō. Thus doublet of excerto.
