     Inoltre, dal momento che gli stessi sūtra e i relativi trattati esegetici erano anche guide per la meditazione, quest’ultima, come ben sa chi abbia fatto pratica, non poteva essere compiuta efficacemente facendo continuo riferimento a una serie di istruzioni scritte.

     Moreover, since the sūtras and their exegetical treatises were also guides to meditation, the latter, as anyone who has practised knows, couldn't be performed effectively by continuously referencing a series of written instructions.
