From Middle English evencristen, evencristene, from Old English *efencristena (fellow-Christian), equivalent to even- +‎ Christian. Cognate with Old Frisian ivinkerstena, evnkristena (fellow-Christian), Middle High German ebenkristen (fellow-Christian).
