English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From tank (attract or resist damage) and face (the player character as opposed to minions), the idea being that to face tank is to accept enemy attacks without any attempt to deflect their damage to non-player entities; thus, to simply absorb them directly.

Verb[edit]

face tank (third-person singular simple present face tanks, present participle face tanking, simple past and past participle face tanked)

  1. (video games) To absorb damage directly, especially in an unsophisticated or unskillful way.
