1. (loose) Any of several varieties of bean viewed (in a region's agroeconomy) as a commodity crop grown at scale in farm fields, whether as a food crop, fodder crop, or both; as:
   1. The hyacinth bean: Lablab purpureus.
   2. A string bean, especially Phaseolus vulgaris.
   3. The broad bean: Vicia faba.
