Italian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Latin faenum, fenum (hay)[1][2][3], which derives from Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁(y)-no-, from *dʰeh₁(y)-. Another proposed etymology is a Vulgar Latin *flēnum[4], from a blending of flōs (flower) and faenum.
