Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle High German vlücke, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old High German flucki. Pertaining to fliegen (to fly). The modern consonantism is Low German (compare (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle Low German vlügge); it has prevailed due to its being more in line with the underlying verb.
