Etymology

[edit]

Uncertain. Either:

  • a variant of gërmih,
  • a denominative verb derived from gërmë (letter) in its otherwise unattested meaning 'line, scratch'; it would have originally meant 'to scratch lines', and thus from Ancient Greek γράμμα (grámma).[1]

Verb

[edit]

gërmoj (aorist gërmova, participle gërmuar)

  1. to hoe, dig
