germule (plural germules)

  1. (biology) A small germ.
    • 1881, James Barr Walker, Experiences of Pioneer Life in the Early Settlements and Cities of the West, page 301:
A seed will lie hidden in the earth, below the search of air and sun, in a latent state, for ages; yet, when thrown near the surface it germinates. But life is not in the body of the seed, but a germule within the seed and within a cell.
