From giga- +‎ bel.

Noun

[edit]

gigabel (plural gigabels)

  1. (humorous) A unit of measure of extremely loud sounds, equal to a power ratio of ten to the power of one billion (short scale). Not used seriously, as this is a larger ratio than separates quantum fluctuations from sufficient power to create a black hole.
