Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Vulgar Latin cicāla, from Latin cicāda (cicada),[1] with metathesis of voicedness from the more conservative form qingallë. The unetymological -n- may have been inserted by contamination with qengj, qingj (lamb).

Noun[edit]

  1. cicada
