globular cluster (plural globular clusters)

  1. (astronomy) a densely-packed spherical star cluster containing thousands to millions of stars

Usage notes[edit]

Typically this is applied to very old clusters, young star clusters of this form may be referred to as super star clusters instead of as globulars.
