  1. (obsolete) A large open vehicle, drawn by horses, used to carry loads of hay; a haywagon.
    • 1971, Gwen White, Antique Toys And Their Background, page 82:
      By the 1870s in England, toy dappled-grey horses were much in favour, some pulled bright yellow carts with tip-up backs, some pulled coal-trucks, others pulled haywains and dust-carts, all of these being a convenient size for a child to pull along on a string.
