Etymology[edit]

  • Possibly from a nickname, hammer hog, of the grinding machine used to create it.
  • The word for "chopped/hacked" in Norwegian is hogge (past tense hogde); chopped wood has been hogde. Hogde fuel may have morphed into hogged fuel.
