From Proto-Albanian *skumba, nasal present from Proto-Indo-European *skeubʰ- (compare English shove, Lithuanian skùbti ‘to hurry’, Polish skubać ‘to pluck’). According to Barić Henrik Albano-Rumanische Studien I. 36-37 from Latin sūpō (to upset; to overturn). [2]
