  1. (obsolete) A diseased state affecting the inhabitants of paludal, marshy areas.
    • 1889, The New England Journal of Medicine, Volume 120:
      The other diatheses, when well marked, have evident lesions, whereas impaludism simulates all maladies, and even in the organism which it has affected as profoundly as possible, it still remains an obscure diathesis.
