Inherited from Medieval Tashelhit ايغڢ (iɣef, “head”), from Proto-Berber *e‐ɣăf (“head”), from earlier *a-aḳăf, from Proto-Afroasiatic *ḳap- (“head, occiput”).[1] Cognate with Zenaga iʔf (“head, extremity”), Ghadames ēɣăf (“head”), Arabic قَفًا (qafan, “occiput”) and Migaama kúpó (“occiput”).
