Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Considered a loan from Ancient Greek ἑβδομάς ‎(hebdomás) via Latin hebdomas, although this remains doubtful due to the unexplained loss of the syllable containing -ma-. [1]. More probably from Proto-Albanian *avā, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eyu- ‎(vital force). Close to Latin aevum, Sanskrit आयु ‎(āyu), Ancient Greek αἰές ‎(aiés, always) (see also amshoj).

Noun[edit]

javë f (indefinite plural javë, definite singular java, definite plural javët)
