Etymology[edit]

From këputë 'sole'[1]. Other proposals include: 1) Camarda, from Greek παπούτσι ‎(papoútsi). 2) Meyer, from Turkish papuç ‎(paputsh) pabuç ‎(pabutsh), from Ottoman Turkish پاپوش ‎(papush), from Persian پاپوش ‎(papush), although these are less probable as they are reflected already in Albanian papuçë.
