Etymology

From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Turkic kaşı- ("to scratch"), According to Nişanyan, it is closely related to kazı- (to engrave, inscribe) and kaz- (to dig).[1]

kaşımak (third-person singular simple present kaşır)

  1. (transitive) to scratch (an itchy place)
