Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish قاشینمق (ḳaşınmaḳ, reflexive; to scratch one's self, to itch),[1] from Ottoman Turkish قاشیمق (ḳaşımaḳ, transitive; to scratch with the nails), from Proto-Turkic *kaĺı- (to scrape, to scratch),[2] morphologically kaşı- +‎ -n- +‎ -mak.
