Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish قاشنمق (ḳaşınmaḳ, “to scratch one's self, to itch”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish قاشمق (ḳaşımaḳ, “to scratch with the nails”), Proto-Turkic *kaĺı- (to scrape, to scratch),[2] morphologically kaşı- + -n + -tı.
